The Factory

Warhol's original Factory at 231 East 47th Street was a silver-painted fever dream. The building is now a parking garage but the spirit lives downtown — especially around Union Square, where his later Factory operated.

The Nightlife

Max's Kansas City on Park Avenue South was his canteen. The building is now a deli but the ghost of the back room — where Bowie, Reed, and Jagger all hung out — still lingers. Studio 54's site on West 54th Street closed decades ago but the block still feels electric at night.

The Art

MoMA has his best works — the soup cans, the Marilyns, the electric chairs. The Whitney downtown shows his contemporaries. And the Bowery, where he lived his final years, is now lined with galleries he would have loved.
