Arne Jacobsen Fritz Hansen Egg Chair - Pair
The edit · Chairs
A pre-owned set of two Egg chairs, made for Fritz Hansen. A mid-century chair is the fastest way to change a room, and the originals were built from solid timber and honest joinery rather than flat-pack.
This listing is a set of two, not a single chair. Matching pieces from the same workshop sit together the way a lone example never can.
The Fritz Hansen mark is the line that separates a licensed piece from a later homage. Turn it over before you fall for the silhouette.
Why it's called that
Egg Chair
Arne Jacobsen designed the Egg in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. He sculpted the shell from clay in his own garage to get the curve right.
What to look for
Sit in it, then look underneath. Loose joints are fixable, but a cracked shell or bent frame isn't worth the trouble.
How to place it
Let one statement chair sit against a neutral room, or recover a tired shell in good wool and let the frame show.
