Set Of Four Vintage Hans Wegner CH24 Wishbone Chairs by Carl Hansen

Set Of Four Vintage Hans Wegner CH24 Wishbone Chairs by Carl Hansen

Used🛋️ Furniture · 1950s–70s

The edit · Furniture

A used Wishbone piece of furniture, made for Carl Hansen. Old furniture was built before flat-pack, with dovetail joints and solid wood you can still smell. It was made to be passed on, not replaced.

The Carl Hansen mark is the line that separates a licensed piece from a later homage. Turn it over before you fall for the silhouette.

The master of the chair.

Hans J. Wegner designed more than 500 chairs over a lifetime, most for the Danish workshop he called home. His Wishbone chair of 1949 has been in continuous production since 1950.

Wegner is the most collected name in Danish mid-century design. The Wishbone, the Round Chair and the Papa Bear are trophies, and original 1950s and 1960s examples are scarce.

Why it's called that

Wishbone Chair

Hans Wegner's CH24 got its nickname from the Y-shaped backrest. Designed in 1949, it has been in continuous production at Carl Hansen since 1950.

What to look for

The maker's stamp, usually Carl Hansen or PP Mobler, and the joinery. A genuine piece shows crisp mortise-and-tenon joints and a paper cord seat that has aged evenly.

Dovetail joints and solid wood, never veneer over particleboard. A maker's stamp on the underside is the strongest sign of a real piece.

How to place it

Mix one vintage piece with the modern and let the patina show. A maker's stamp on the underside is the strongest sign of the real thing.
