Why it's called that
Egg Chair
Arne Jacobsen designed the Egg in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. He sculpted the shell from clay in his own garage to get the curve right.
What to look for
Sit in it, then look underneath. Loose joints are fixable, but a cracked shell or bent frame isn't worth the trouble.
How to place it
Let one statement chair sit against a neutral room, or recover a tired shell in good wool and let the frame show.
