A used Lady Dior bag. The small shoulder bag is back, and the originals are still out there. A bag from this era was designed to be carried, not photographed, and it shows in the hardware and the stitching.
The New Look that rebuilt fashion.
Founded in Paris in 1946 by Christian Dior. His 1947 New Look collection, with its cinched waist and full skirt, redrew the silhouette after the war, and the house never looked back.
Dior is collected for the Saddle bag, the Lady Dior and its costume jewellery of the 1950s and 1960s, all of which carry the romance of the house's golden age.
Why it's called that
Lady Dior
Dior named the bag in 1995 after Diana, Princess of Wales, who was given one by France's first lady and rarely put it down.
What to look for
Hallmarks on jewellery and stitching on bags. The Saddle's curved shape and the Lady Dior's cannage quilting are hard to fake convincingly.
Look at the corners, hardware and lining. Real bags age at the stress points first, so a worn corner is often a good sign, not a flaw.
How to wear it
Wear it high and tight under the arm, the way the strap length was intended. Let a loud bag do the talking against plain tailoring.
