Omega Speedmaster Vintage Black Dial 42mm Steel Manual Wind Watch 145.022-69ST

The edit · Watches

A used Omega Speedmaster watch in black steel. A mechanical watch from these decades was built to be repaired, not replaced. Patina on the dial and a bracelet softened to the wrist are earned, not defects.

The watch that went to the moon.

Founded in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds by Louis Brandt. Omega made the Speedmaster, the watch NASA certified for spaceflight in 1965 and which reached the moon on Apollo 11 in 1969.

Omega is the thinking collector's brand: deep history, real innovation, and prices that still trail Rolex while the quality matches it. Vintage Seamasters and Constellations are the sweet spot.

Why it's called that

Omega Speedmaster

Named for speed. In 1965 NASA certified the Speedmaster as the only watch approved for spaceflight, and it became the 'Moonwatch' after Apollo 11 in 1969.

What to look for

Check the calibre number on the movement against the caseback reference. A clean, unpolished case and an original dial carry a real premium.

Check the case back and movement markings, and whether the crown winds cleanly. A service history doubles the value of any mechanical watch.

How to wear it

Keep the case small and swap the strap. A 34 to 36mm dial under a shirt cuff reads far more deliberate than anything oversized.
